Social Media Tips for Successful School Fundraising

Social Media Tips for Successful School Fundraising

Schools can create effective fundraising campaigns on social media by keeping things simple, visual, and community driven. The goal is to make it easy for families to understand the fundraiser and easy for them to share it.

Here are a few simple ways schools can make it work:

Start with a clear message

Every post should quickly answer three questions: what you’re raising money for, how people can help, and why it matters. Keep the message short and positive so it’s easy to read and share.

Use photos and short videos

Posts with real photos of students, classrooms, or fundraising products perform much better than text alone. Short videos of students explaining the fundraiser or showing the products create an emotional connection and grab attention – plus, they’re always cute 

Consistency + Keep-it-short posts

Instead of one long announcement, post short reminders throughout the campaign. Stay consistent on posting quick updates, progress checks, and friendly reminders to help keep the fundraiser top of mind.

Make sharing easy for families

Provide copy-and-paste captions and links parents can share with friends and family. When the work is done for them, they are more likely to help spread the word.

Highlight progress and celebrate wins

Share milestones like reaching 25% or 50% of the goal. Celebrate classrooms, students, or volunteers who are helping. Public recognition encourages more participation.

Use clear call-to-action

Tell people exactly what to do next, whether it’s buying, donating, or sharing a link. Avoid vague language and keep instructions simple.

Leverage school and PTO pages together

Coordinate posts between the school, PTO or PTA, and teacher pages. The more places families see the message, the stronger the reach.

Show appreciation publicly

Thank supporters in posts and stories. Gratitude builds trust and encourages continued support, both during the campaign and in the future.

When schools focus on authenticity, clear communication, and community involvement, social media becomes a powerful tool for fundraising success.
